BATIK

Batik is a wax-resist dyeing process that is applied on the entire textile. This method was developed on the Indonesian island of Java. Batik is created by either painting dots and lines in the resist using a spouted instrument known as a canting or printing the resist with a copper stamp known as a cap. Because the wax resists dyes, the artist may colour the cloth selectively by soaking it in one colour, extracting the wax with boiling water, and repeating the process if various colours are needed.
